The Golden Circle Tour is the classic thing to do in the Reykjavik area. Coaches run from the BSI bus terminal and take you to:
- Gullfoss – a 32m two-drop waterfall
- Geysir – the original geyser doesn’t often erupt any more, but Strokkur next door reliably blows every 6 minutes or so to a height of around 20m
- Þingvellir National Park – in the rift valley which separates Europe from North America, this was the location of the first Icelandic parliament in 930AD.
Plus you may get taken to other sites as well, such as an Icelandic horse show, a tour of some Icelandic horticulture or a swimming pool/spa, depending on the tour you choose. There are cafes at all three sites and plenty of time is allowed to look round.
